The Social Experience

We will be studying the theme The Social Experience and reading/viewing texts that will relate to this theme.  We will also be studying The Book Thief during this unit.

Mar. 2-6

We are continuing to work on The Book Thief.  We are going to complete Part One for Friday.  We will be looking at the Literary Devices and Elements in this section and having a quiz on Friday.


Feb. 23-27
On Monday and Tuesday, we finished working on the play and discussed as a class.

On Wednesday, we started our novel study The Book Thief.  We read the prologue together.

Students are completing a representing activity using the important symbol of colour from the novel.  They will write a play to accompany their representation.


Feb. 19-20
Students continued to work on A Doll`s House.

Feb. 9-12

Students completed the movie and viewing guide, as well as wrote a movie review of the movie and how it related to our theme.  Students used the writing process to complete this assignment.

As a class, we discussed `telling a lie`.  Students began working in small groups on the play A Doll`s House.  They filled out the graphic organizer for the lies told in the play.  We discussed the elements of drama and how it differed from the elements of literature.  Students completed discussion questions for each act. 


Feb. 2-6

We will start with the writing process and composing a friendly letter introducing yourself to me!

We also discussed various Social Experiences and how others affect us.  We looked at doing good for other people and how our decisions affect others.  We began the movie Braveheart to look at the theme 'Doing Something for Others'.
